Mary Beaudoin and Peter O’Quinn of Corner Brook are the latest Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life winners.
A news release notes the top prize in the Set for Life scratch ticket is a choice of $1,000 a week for 25 years, or a lump sum payment of $675,000.
Beaudoin, 68 and O’Quinn, 72 decided to take the lump sum.
The couple, originally from Newfoundland, are retired and decided to move back to Corner Brook from Ontario a little over two years ago to help care for Beaudoin's 91-year-old mother.
The purchased the winning ticket on a recent trip to the local Walmart.
"We knew we made the right decision to move back home," Beaudoin said. "But living on seniors’ pensions can be tough. This amount of money will make retirement a whole lot more comfortable for all of us."
Newfoundland and Labrador has been on a winning streak with Set for Life. In 2012, there were five top prizes awarded in Atlantic Canada, four of which were won in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2013, two of the four top prizes were awarded in Newfoundland and Labrador.
