The RCMP in Corner Brook is investigating a hit-and-run collision in which a pedestrian was seriously injured Thursday.

A caller reported a vehicle-pedestrian collision around 8 p.m. on the North Shore Highway in Meadows and said the driver had left the scene. RCMP officers responded, along with paramedic/ambulance service from Western Memorial Hospital and members of the Meadows Volunteer Fire Department.

The RCMP said they located a seriously injured man who had been struck by a vehicle while walking on the roadside. He was immediately transported by ambulance to Western Memorial Regional Hospital where he received emergency treatment for his injuries and is now recovering.

As a result of the RCMP investigation and scene reconstruction, a 59-year-old man was arrested. He has since been released from police custody pending a June 2014 court date. The suspect has not been named as charges are pending and not formally laid.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information concerning this or any other crime are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
