Deer Lake man charged with attempted murder

Alexander Normore, a 50-year-old Deer Lake resident, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an attack on another man with a metal flashlight.

Normore appeared in court Monday and was remanded into police custody.

The RCMP says on March 1, around 6:45 a.m., officers from the Deer Lake detachment responded to an incident in the town.  According to police, a male attacker unlawfully entered the home and found the lone male occupant in his bedroom where a metal flashlight was used to assault the victim. 

A struggle ensued and the victim was able to escape and find some assistance. The victim suffered some minor injuries for which he was treated local clinic and released.

Police later located the suspected intruder at his home, where he was arrested.

Normore has been remanded in custody until April 24.

The RCMP the victim and attacker knew each other.

The investigation has involved the Deer Lake RCMP detachment, Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Section.
