A man suspected of stabbing another man on Frecker Drive last spring has pleaded not guilty to charges against him.

Stephen Hopkins, 23, was in Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John’s Thursday morning.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon (a knife).

His lawyer Jason Edwards and Crown prosecutor Shawn Patten agreed to schedule Hopkins’ trial for Dec. 1. It’s expected to last five days.

Hopkins was charged in connection with an incident that happened June 6, around 1:40 a.m. It’s alleged Hopkins attacked and stabbed a 37-year-old man walking on the south side of Frecker Drive.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the victim’s injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

Police also said the victim and Hopkins did not know each other.
