The City of St. John’s will contribute $1 million to a project it hopes will spruce up one of its oldest parks.

According to Mayor Dennis O’Keefe and Ward 2 Coun. Jonathan Galgay, the plan to revitalize Victoria Park will be based on the input of residents through a public consultation process.

A foundation will likely be formed similar to the one that worked on the recent plan to revamp Bannerman Park. The city also hopes additional funding partners will come on board for the project for the park, which opened in 1890.

Half of the city’s investment in the project comes from the provincial government’s one-time capital works investment for municipalities that was announced in the most recent budget.
