Five fishermen rescued off Notre Dame Bay

Five fishermen were rescued Sunday in the ocean off Notre Dame Bay after their fishing vessel began rapidly taking on water.

According to Joint Forces Atlantic (JTF Atlantic), the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax dispatched a Cormorant helipcopter, Hercules aircraft and Coast Guard vessel, Edward Cornwallis, to assist the fishermen.

Fishing vessels, Kimberly Dianne and Power Legacy also responded.

Search and Rescue techicians from the 103 Rescue Squadron hoisted the fishermen to safety.

All five crewmembers were reported in good health after abandoning their boat.
