The driver of a car started a chain of events that resulted in a four-vehicle accident in the parking lot of a St. John’s grocery store early Monday evening.

The accident happened in the parking lot of Sobeys on Topsail Road. According to an eyewitness, the white car first struck the rear end of a another car. He said the driver apparently panicked and hit the accelerator instead of the brakes.

This caused the car to hit a parked SUV. The impact of that collision sent the SUV into a car parked beside it.

Paramedics responding to the incident were treating the female driver of the white car when The Telegram arrived on the scene shortly before 7 p.m.
