A pair of hikers had to spend Friday night in the country without cover after becoming turned around in the Lewis Hills area.

On Friday night police received a report around 8:00 P.M. that a 27 year old male and a 26 year old female from Stephenville were overdue from a hiking trip. A family member reported that the two had departed from near Cold Brook during the day on Thursday for an overnight hike but had not yet returned. The pair had told family members that they would definitely return by supper time on Friday.

Search and Rescue teams were mobilized and searched the area all through the night. Their vehicle was quickly located and a short time later their tent and campsite were also found. Newfoundland and Labrador Fire and Emergency Services supplied a Universal Helicopter from Pasadena to assist in the search in the morning and the two were found around 11:00 A.M.

According to pair, they had gone for a day hike from their tent on Friday morning and became disoriented in sudden thick fog that rolled in and covered the hills. Although they ended up spending Friday night without their camping gear, they were in good spirits and uninjured when located.
