Bear spray used in St. John’s assault

An assault involving the use of bear spray is now the focus of a police investigation in St. John’s.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report, officers responded to a disturbance complaint in the downtown area shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Police have not indicated whether any suspects are in custody, but it has been determined bear spray was used to commit an assault. Officers with the RNC’s identification section and criminal investigation division were at the scene.

No information has been released about injuries resulting from the assault.
