St. John’s Regional Fire Department, police and ambulance services were called to Paddy’s Pond this afternoon when a passerby reported seeing three people fall off a sea-doo like personal watercraft.
Winds on the pond quickly took the craft away from the three people.
All three people in the water were wearing life jackets. Two swam ashore while the third swam a couple of hundred meters across the pond to the watercraft which had blown to another part of the shoreline.
One of the three people involved later called The Telegram saying that in fact, only two people were on the machine and that they fell off and were not in distress.
The person who wasn't on the machine swam across the pond to retrieve it.
There were no injuries and rescue personnel noted that the fact that the three were wearing life jackets possibly averted a more serious incident.
