Rocky Harbour RCMP has suspended separate searches concerning two men who went missing this past week in Western Newfoundland.

According to a news release issued Saturday afternoon, police will continue to investigate the disappearances of 47-year-old Albert Brake of Trout River and a resident of Cow Head whose name has not been released. However, Rocky Harbour RCMP said it will suspend searching for the men unless it receives new information.

Brake was last spotted on Sunday, July 20, swimming near the beach in Trout River. He was reported missing on Tuesday.

Local police received a second missing person report on Tuesday about a man from Cow Head who was thought to have gone into the water near a wharf. An ATV he was using at the time was recovered.

To help police and other personnel involved in the search for the man from Cow Head, Parks Canada closed Shallow Bay Beach in Gros Morne National Park for a few days. On Friday, it announced in a news release that the beach was reopening.
