St. John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) Fire Chief Jerry Peach officially promoted firefighter Don Byrne to deputy fire chief of operations in a ceremony on the Central Fire Station apparatus floor on Monday morning before fellow officers and the on-duty firefighters. A 37-year veteran firefighter, Byrne joined the fire department Aug. 17, 1977.
