UPDATE: Search scaled back for missing Makkovik man

An investigation continues into the disappearance of Jake Basto from Makkovik, but the RCMP says search efforts have been scaled back until such time as additional information becomes available.

The RCMP in Makkovik said in a news release, it would like to thank the residents of Makkovik and neighbouring communities for their assistance and show of support during the ongoing investigation and search efforts. 

The RCMP would also like to thank all partnering agencies and volunteers who have assisted throughout the investigation.    


Should anyone have additional information concerning this incident they are asked to please contact the Makkovik RCMP detachment or their local police detachment.

Search continues for missing Makkovik man

RCMP at Makkovik are continuing search efforts to locate 18-year-old Jake Basto who failed to return home from a walk during the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 9.

The RCMP officers are being assisted by Fire and Emergency Services which has dispatched a helicopter to the area.  

The RCMP Air Services fixed wing Twin Otter aircraft, B Division Police Dog Services,  and members of the Ground Search and Rescue Teams in Makkovik and Happy Valley-Goose Bay are currently conducting an extensive search within and surrounding the community.

If anyone has information that might assist in the search, they are asked to contact the Makkovik RCMP Detachment or their local RCMP Detachment.
