Arrest made in armed robbery of taxi driver

Police have a suspect in custody following an armed robbery in St. John’s early Sunday morning involving a taxi driver.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said cash was taken from the driver before the culprit took off. Police got help from its K-9 unit to track down a 21-year-old man. A report came in about the incident at 5:30 a.m.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court Sunday. He will face charges of break and enter and armed robbery. Police have not released any details about the weapon used to commit the crime.
