A 69-year-old man from Rocky Harbour was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on the Trans-Canada Highway, just east of Doyles on the province’s west coast.

RCMP officers from the Port aux Basques detachment and Traffic Services West responded to the accident. The man was the lone occupant in the car.

The matter remains under investigation and the exact cause of the collision is not yet known.

Police say neither speed, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
