‘This place was cod’
PORT UNION, NL — If you took a drive through Port Union in the 1980s, you would have had to slow down driving past the fish plant.
A woman and her son were fortunately able to escape a burning home in Bunyan's Cove early this morning but are in hospital being treated for their injuries.
RCMP in Clarenville responded to a report of a residential fire in the community around 1 a.m.
Fire departments from Bunyan's Cove and Musgravetown were on scene for several hours dealing with the blaze.
A 47-year-old woman and her 30-year-old son were able to escape the residence through a bedroom window. Both remain at G.B. Cross Hospital in Clarenville and are being treated for injuries related to the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Police investigators remain on scene this morning.
The home was extensively damaged.
