Update: Three arrested for afternoon robbery

Three men have been arrested following a daytime robbery attempt in Churchill Square in St. John’s.

This afternoon at approximately 1:05 p.m., RNC responded to a report of an assault in progress in the area of Churchill Square.

A male was returning from an area bank to his workplace with a quantity of money when he was approached by several men who demanded the cash.

There was an altercation between the parties that resulted in the 22-year-old victim sustaining minor injuries from a weapon.


Three suspects released without charge

Officers located and arrested three males in relation to this robbery in the area of the Bell Island ferry terminal in Portugal Cove.

The victim and the three men arrested are known to each other and this does not appear to be a random act.

Several RNC vehicles are currently in front of a strip of businesses on Rowan Street in Churchill Square pertaining to an incident which happened moments ago.

There is an individual in one of the RNC patrol cars speaking to an officer.

A criminal investigation officer also just showed up on the scene.

When asked, RNC Sgt. Dave Hutchings said he wasn't “able to elaborate on the incident at this time as the matter is currently under investigation by officers.”
