Power outage on Fogo Island, Change Islands

Crews being flown to area by helicopter, since ferry service is also down

As if weathering a storm and being without ferry service isn't bad enough, Fogo, Change Islands residents have been without power since Tuesday night.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says about 250 customers in Change Islands are currently without power. 

The exact cause of the issue is unknown at this time, however the area experienced high winds and winter storm conditions Tueday. 

Due to an issue with the ferry, crews were unable to respond Tuesday night. 

A helicopter is being dispatched this morning to begin troubleshooting the issue.

The power failure on Change Islands began around 9:25 p.m. Tuesday and the estimated restoration time is around noon today.

The power failure for Fogo Island began around 11:45 p.m. The estimated restoration time there is 2:10 p.m. today.

NL Hydro says customers can call the 24-hour customer call centre at anytime if they have further questions at 1-888-737-1296.
