Search being organized for missing snowmobilers

The four men, who are experienced travellers from St. Alban’s, were on their way to Isle Aux Morts and were reported missing when they didn’t arrive as planned Monday evening.

Search efforts by the Barachois Brook Search and Rescue Team were hampered in the evening by bad weather, but got underway early this morning. An aerial search was also planned with help from a Fire and Emergency Services NL helicopter, but the men showed up at a search and rescue command post in Peter Strides around 9 a.m. They said they had located a cabin nearby, in the area of Princess Lake, where they had stayed until the weather improved.

Burgeo RCMP are reminding snowmobiles and others travelling outside to check weather forecasts, travel with sufficient supplies, give a travel plan to family members or friends in case of bad weather, and take a satellite phone wherever possible.
