One man was taken to hospital following an alleged serious assault at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 on The Boulevard early Sunday morning.

The incident happened at approximately 1 a.m.

At least four Royal Newfoundland Constabulary patrol vehicles and one Eastern Health ambulance were on scene when The Telegram arrived and officers could be seen entering the ambulance where the victim was being treated. Two officers were also seen searching the grounds in front of the building. An officer with RNC identification services arrived about an hour later to document and photograph the scene and was observed taking several photos inside the front entrance.

Police say the male was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries

An unconfirmed report indicates a baseball bat may have been involved in the assault but the RNC would not confirm if a weapon was used in the incident.
