An armed robbery at a local lounge in Topsail Saturday evening resulted in the neighbourhood being searched by a large number of Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers.

A post on social media stated that at least five RNC vehicles were seen searching an area from Topsail Beach Road to the Topsail post office and that the K-9 unit was also involved. The post also stated that the officers were knocking on doors and asking whether anyone had seen two males on foot. The incident appears to have happened between 9 and 9:30 p.m. at the Topsail Breeze lounge on the main road.

When The Telegram arrived on scene, there were three police vehicles in the parking lot of the business and another parked in a driveway a short distance away.

An RNC forensics officer was also spotted taking photographs on the lounge’s deck and near the front door as well as on the shoulder of the road about a hundred metres away.

The RNC did confirm for The Telegram that there was an armed robbery but no other information was available.
