Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development Minister Christopher Mitchelmore took to Facebook to assure people that he’s safe, albeit delayed by a hijacking situation in Cyprus.
Mitchelmore was in Cyprus on holiday for the Easter long weekend, where a hijacked EgyptAir flight was sent today.
“I want to assure everyone I am safe, my flight this afternoon has been rescheduled for tomorrow,” Mitchelmore said. “I was not at the airport. A plane hijacking took place — This is a flight that came from Egypt and was not scheduled to land at Larnaca, but did via hijacking. The airport is evacuated and authorities continue to negotiate.”
The hijacker has since been arrested, according to multiple news reports citing the Cyprus foreign ministry.
