A woman and man involved in a single vehicle rollover over on Pitts Memorial Drive near the Trans Canada Highway exits near noon today were transported to hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.

The accident forced the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to close a westbound stretch of the divided four-lane highway between the TCH east and west exits while first responders were on the scene investigating and removing the vehicle from the median. All traffic was diverted off the road via the east exit for approximately two hours.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, although deteriorating road conditions at the time are likely a factor.
