Police, along with the St. John’s SPCA, searched a home with a warrant under the Animal Health and Protection act. According to a news release from the RCMP, the home was in deplorable condition, and the cats were in distress. Several of them were emaciated, dehydrated and covered in fleas.
The animals were turned over to the SPCA, where they are being treated and cared for.
Charges against the homeowner , whose name is not being released at this time, are pending.
A similar incident happened in December 2012, when 25 cats were taken from a Fox Harbour home. A veterinarian contacted police after a person from the town brought two cats in for treatment.
