The Metrobus fleet will soon grow with 18 new accessible busses as part of a $2.6 million funding announcement. It will also allow for 29 new wheelchair-accessible shelters and a new transit operations system.

Three tiers of government are teaming up to invest $2.6 million into making Metrobus service more accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Under the infrastructure funding from the federal, provincial and municipal government, 18 new accessible busses — all with video surveillance — will be added to the existing fleet and Metrobus will add 29 wheelchair-friendly shelters along six of its routes.

The funds also allow for a new transit operations system and for a study aimed at improving efficiency in fleet service and maintenance.
