Well-known singer and musician Alan Doyle will join a team of local experts who will help a well-known national adventure travel company on an east-coast expedition in the fall.
Doyle — who fronted the successful folk, rock group Great Big Sea and is also an author and actor — will band with Adventure Canada, the country’s leading small-ship expedition operator, as it circumnavigates this province, exploring small inlets and getting to know the people from Oct. 2 to Oct. 12.
The Petty Harbour native will be a member of a provincial team which will also include resource staff, made up of naturalists, archeologists and historians. They will join the 198-passenger Ocean Endeavour to speak about this province’s musical culture and give readings from Doyle’s recent national bestseller, A Newfoundlander in Canada: Always Going Somewhere, Always Coming Home.
Starting and ending in historic St. John’s, Newfoundland Circumnavigation will offer an intimate experience of this province’s lively culture and dramatic scenery via daily expedition stops and community visits.
Guests visit the Red Bay UNESCO world heritage site, learning about the Viking history at L’Anse aux Meadows and enjoy a taste of the Mi’kmaq culture in Miawpukek First Nation, while experiencing the province’s legendary music, food and hospitality.
