There was a social media scare Saturday afternoon after online reports of an Amber Alert in St. John’s.
Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Sgt. Rod Priddle said an Amber Alert was never issued.
A Facebook post shared nearly 5,000 times stated, “RNC have issued an Amber Alert, please share. Last seen at Mount Pearl Summit Centre yesterday evening 7:30,” and included a photo of a young girl.
Sgt. Priddle said the RNC would notify media directly if they ever had cause to issue an Amber Alert.
Meanwhile, RNC are following up on the source of the erroneous report.
