The deadline for receipt of completed applications is May 12.
To be eligible for participation in the 2017 big game licence draw individuals must:
• Be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Be at least 18 years of age by Aug. 31.
• Have a hunter certificate number.
• Have completed the firearms safety/hunter education course or applied for an outdoor identification card before Nov. 30, 2016.
Eligible hunters can return completed applications either by mail or online at https://www.wildlife.gov.nl.ca/.
The 2017-18 Hunting and Trapping Guide is also available on the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources website. The guide contains information including facts about hunting safety, fees, regulations and changes for the 2017-18 hunting season.
For 2017-18, there are 31,880 moose licences available for the island of Newfoundland, a reduction of 75 compared to last season.
The number of available caribou licences for the Island has decreased by 20 for a total allocation of 715 licences.
In Labrador, 359 moose licences are available again this year. This includes 320 licences available through the big game draw and 39 issued to the Nunatsiavut Government. There are also 370 moose licences available for registered not-for-profit and charitable organizations.
