Workers with Trident Construction were hard at work Saturday installing sixteen concrete beams for the new Team Gushue highway overpass at Topsail Road.
Work began early Saturday as they closed the usually busy road in the area and detoured traffic around the construction zone.
Each beam, weighing about 32 tons or 72,000 pounds, was lifted off the ground by two cranes and hoisted into place across the road. All of the beams were expected to be in place across the road by the end of Saturday with adjustments to their positions to take place Sunday.
The road closure in the area was scheduled to last until Monday evening but could end earlier depending on the progress of the weekend work.
