The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding hunters to be aware of safety regulations when hunting after what's believed to be a hunter's bullet went into a Flatrock home Sunday afternoon and lodged into a wall.

The incident was reported to police around 4 p.m.

The RNC said a woman with children in her home said she heard a bang and discovered the bullet that went through a laundry room window and lodged in a wall.

“Police believe at this time it was a stray bullet from a hunter and do not believe there is a risk to the public, however the matter is being treated seriously and is still under investigation,” the RNC said in a media report this morning.

“Hunters are reminded to be mindful of the requirements for a safe and lawful hunt.”

There were also reports on Twitter on the weekend of a hunter stopping a vehicle on Veteran's Memorial Highway and shooting a moose on the side of the road.

The Newfoundland and Labrador hunting regulations stipulate that it's illegal to discharge a firearm within 1,000 meters of a school, playground or athletic field, or within 300 meters of a dwelling.

It's also illegal to carry a loaded gun in a vehicle or to discharge a firearm from or across any railway bed, highway, public or private road.

The regulations state that firearms or ammunition must be cased or securely wrapped and tied when being transported.
