CHANCEPORT, N.L. – A Carter’s Cove man is facing charges after a two-vehicle collision in Chanceport early in the morning on June 24.
Twillingate RCMP responded to the incident at around 3:30 a.m., according to a release.
The man, 20, had allegedly crashed into a second vehicle and fled the scene. An 18-year-old woman in the other vehicle was injured and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
Police found the suspect vehicle in a ditch roughly a kilometre away. Breath samples of the man proved to be over the legal limit for alcohol.
The man was released the next day and will be back in court at a later date.
Charges against him include failing to remain at the scene of a collision, impaired driving causing bodily harm, and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood, causing bodily harm.
The man was also issued two tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for operating a vehicle without insurance and registration, and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
Police indicate the investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
