CLARENVILLE, NL— A Clarenville man awaiting trial for allegedly luring a child and inviting the child to touch his penis was taken into custody for breaking a condition of his recognizance.

The man was taken into custody and appeared in Clarenville provincial court Nov. 7 for visiting a Grade 1 class on Sept. 6.

According to the court, the visit to the classroom was a clear violation of the condition that he is to “have no contact with any person under the age of 16 years, except if in the presence of another adult who has been notified of the charges and conditions and who is a parent or guardian to that child.”

An exception is made in the case of the accused man’s own children.

The man was released from custody on new conditions, including a prohibition from any school property, playground, or anywhere else children under the age of 16 are expected to be.

Other conditions of recognizance include prohibition from using internet services, owning electronic devices with internet services, and possessing child pornography.

The accused man will appear in Clarenville provincial court tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 9, on the charge of breaking recognizance.

A trial date is set for Tuesday, Nov. 21 to address the initial two charges.
