Two men had a very close call on Allandale Road just before 2 a.m. Friday morning when their truck crashed through a section of guardrail, rolled over an embankment and nearly plunged into Long Pond. As it was, the truck overturned onto its side with the nose of the vehicle partially submerged in the water at the edge of the pond. An emergency official on scene said the men were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle and were walking around when ambulances, firefighters and police arrived on scene. St. John’s Regional firefighters used a stepladder to access the overturned truck so it could be secured. An approximately ten-meter section of guardrail could be seen twisted and crushed near the bridge over Rennies River next to the collision scene. Both victims were taken to hospital as a precaution with what appeared to be minor injuries. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident.
