St. John’s—Computers for Schools NL will celebrate the delivery of the 50,000th computer at an event Thursday.

“The delivery of 50,000 refurbished computers by Computers for Schools NL is a milestone that has significantly impacted the lives of many Newfoundland and Labrador citizens over the past 24 years,” board chairman Allan Miller said in a news release. “This achievement is the result of the work of our dedicated staff and volunteers and we thank them for their commitment.”

Computers for Success Canada (CFS) recently celebrated the delivery of 1.5 million computers by the Government of Canada’s CFS program.

Since 1993, the CFS NL program has helped meet the demand for computers in Canadian classrooms and communities. “

Since 1999, CFS NL has provided in excess of 155,000 hours of training to nearly 200 young students and graduates across Newfoundland and Labrador under TWEP (Technical Work Experience Program), Canada Summer Jobs Program and SWASP.

“As the program continues to grow, more than ever it relies on the support of public and private technology donors,” Miller said. Historically, a third of the computers refurbished by the program have come from the federal government, a third from the provincial government and a third from the private sector.
