An industry magazine reported Friday that Cooke Aquaculture is harvesting salmon at the farm near six open-pen cages near the community of Gaultois after the provincial government found infectious salmon anemia (ISA).
The company runs six open-pen cages near the community.
The virus is potentially fatal to fish but causes no harm to humans.
The latest outbreak is the third ISA incident that Cooke has faced in its Newfoundland farms in the last five months. The most recent occurred at the same site in October.
The Undercurrent reported Chick Browne, a spokesman for the company, said Cooke is “harvesting the positive farm and will continue to harvest the entire farm.”
The transport and processing of the fish are being supervised by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture veterinarian, Brown told The Undecurrent.
