After spending the weekend in jail, a Corner Brook woman charged with assaulting a man with a knife late last week was released from custody on Monday afternoon.

Samantha Piercey, 27, was arrested on Jan. 11 following a disturbance at a city home and charged with assault with a weapon or imitation, assault, uttering threats to damage or destroy property and mischief to property, less than $5,000.

During Monday’s appearance before Judge Harold Porter, who appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook via videoconference from Grand Bank, Crown attorney Adam Sparkes indicated the Crown was agreeable to her release on an undertaking.

Her release conditions include that she report to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays to sign the registration book; abide by a curfew between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.; not conceal any knife on her person; not possess or consume alcohol; not possess, consume or traffic in any illegal substances; have no contact with her alleged victim and remain away from any place of residence, employment or schooling that she knows to be frequented by him.

Piercey’s next court date was set for Feb. 13.
