Dead whale removal underway at Outer Cove Beach

LOGY BAY-MIDDLE COVE-OUTER COVE, N.L. — The Canadian Coast Guard was at Outer Cove Beach June 7 to remove a dead whale that was the subject of controversy between the town and government officials over its removal.

The Canadian Coast Guard is at Outer Cove Beach Wednesday to remove a dead whale that was the subject of controversy between the town and government officials over its removal.

The carcass of a dead minke whale washed up on the beach over the Victoria Day weekend.

All roads in the area of the beach were closed to vehicles and pedestrians during the operation.

Amid health concerns about the rotting whale, the Town of Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove initially had trouble getting help for the removal from the federal government. But earlier in the week, the town received word assistance was on the way.
