The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is consulting on the recreational scallop fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The department is looking for input that will inform changes to management measures used in the fishery.
Comments are being sought from Indigenous groups, recreational scallop harvesters and interested members of the public.
While feedback is welcomed on any aspect of the recreational scallop fishery, some suggested topics include the harvest season, catch limits, gear, and openings and closings.
According to DFO, harvesting scallops recreationally mostly occurs near the shore in Newfoundland and Labrador where Icelandic and sea scallops are common. For the recreational scallop fishery, there is a daily harvest of 50 meats and a possession limit of 100.
Scallops are harvested by rakes, diving, dipnet, handpicking and scallop drags in select areas.
