Police say it was a very busy night in the Northeast Avalon region with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responding to 237 calls . A significant number of their calls involved dealing with impaired or illegal drivers. Here are just a few:

• A 57-year-old man was pulled over on Topsail Road shortly before 9 p.m. Friday and charged with impaired driving while having consumed three times the legal limit. He was released to appear in court at a later date and his vehicle was impounded.

• Around the same time police stopped a 29-year-old man driving in the area of Columbus Drive in St. John’s. As a result of a brief investigation, he received a seven-day suspension from driving and several summary offence tickets. He was released from custody however his vehicle was impounded.

• At 10:45 p.m the RNC responded to complaint from the public, following a collison with a parked car in the downtown area. A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by drug. He was released from custody and his vehicle was impounded.

• At 3 o’clock this morning a 28-year-old man was charged with drunk driving after he was stopped in the area of Minerals Road, Conception Bay South. He was released to appear in court at a later date however his vehicle was impounded.
