Torbay, N.L. — Emergency crews pulled unresponsive man from Torbay swimming hole mid-afternoon Wednesday, police confirmed in a report Thursday morning.
At 3:15 p.m., the RNC, Eastern Health Ambulance Services, and the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call of an unresponsive swimmer in Whiteways Pond, a swimming hole that is popular in warm weather.
A man was located in the water and transported to the Health Science Centre, police said.
Bystanders said the man was 22 years old.
Later Torbay town Coun Justin Martin tweeted: “Praying for peace and comfort for the family and friends of the deceased. Also for comfort for all of the first responders that responded to this call.”
The Torbay Volunteer Fire Department later shared a media post reporting the young man’s death.
The matter is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division.
The death has not yet been confirmed by the RNC.
