There were no injuries but a vehicle was damaged Saturday night when high winds from the first snow storm of the season blew construction debris from the Core Science building construction site onto the Prince Philip Parkway. The debris - plastic sheets and lumber used to shelter the worksite - fell on a passing car, temporarily trapping the driver inside. The driver was able to eventually extricate himself and his car from the situation but St. John’s Regional firefighters and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary had to close both lanes of the road for safety reasons. Memorial University later tweeted that it was working with the contractor to secure the site.
