The brother and sister of a man who went missing from Mount Pearl Monday are desperately waiting for some word on what happened to him. And the police are asking anyone with dash cams or CCTV systems to check to see if there is footage of the missing 60-year-old Gerald Anthony.

Anthony was last seen at his home around 11 p.m. on Aug. 13. He lived on Smallwood Drive with his sister, Bonnie Anthony.
He is 5-8, 130 lbs and has short hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, brown shoes and a black T-shirt.

“He had walked from his buddy’s house on St. Andrew’s Avenue, I was intended on picking him up but he ended up walking home on his own. Came in the house after I had arrived home,” his sister told The Telegram Saturday.

“He asked if I’d take him to get a ticket (and we) did that over at Needs on the corner of Parsons Avenue. We returned home and he had a snack, and he went to his room. ,,, I went in my room to get ready for bed. … but after being in my room I had heard all of this motion around the home, he just walked around or whatever.”

She paused and added,” He said good-night to his cat, Tommy, and I heard the door close and I heard him on the doorstep — my bedroom (window) was full open on the front, and he just said, ‘Where am I gonna go?’

Bonnie Anthony said her brother liked to walk and it wasn’t uncommon for him to go for an evening stroll. He often frequented trails in the area. Police have asked that other trail users keep an eye out for any clues of his whereabouts or anything unusual.

“I think he’s got a few things on his mind perhaps. He might have wanted to have a walk, then he’d come home, it’s not an uncommon thing for him to do.”

Bonnie said Gerald didn’t usually stay out, and it would be unlikely for him not to come home.

“At this point in the game we’re speculating lots of different ways, but we can’t say what his mindset was and what was on his mind or where he was going. We have no idea.”

She’s worried about his health.

“I’ve suspected for a while that he has a health issue, and some of the things I’ve found out this week is kind of confirming to me that I do believe he does,” she said. “He may be potentially diabetic. He’s had episodes where he’s fainted or passed out kind of thing, and had chocolate given to him by his friend and come right around,” she said.

He’s self-sufficient don’t look for help. So, he’s not a kind of guy to go out and create a fuss. It’s unfortunate because if he got weak or something, you know, where is he? Is he still OK? Or is there something else on the go? I just don’t know.

Anthony’s brother Ken is appealing to the public.

Anybody who may think they saw him or just a maybe even, just to get hold to the RNC because we’re trying to really get the last time that he was seen by anybody and then they can concentrate on a more confined kind of area that they can start looking with their other processes I guess, he said Saturday.

“Don’t think for one second about not approaching because he’s an easygoing guy, very approachable, so there’s no concern whatsoever from that perspective.”

“He’s got a particular few friends that he spends most of his time with, but we’re after finding more and more friends every day, Bonnie said. He knows a lot of people and they’re out there now, a lot of them, looking. But his main little group of friends here, up to St. Andrew’s is where he goes pretty much.”

Ken is worried about the time that has passed.

Anybody at all who may think that they’ve seen him please let us know because we’re going into night No. 6 now of course, and your heart is going on way and your head is kind of going the other way.

Please God, it will be a good news story.

The RNC is asking residents in the Mount Pearl areas shown on the map included in this story, who have CCTV systems to contact police if they have video footage from between 9:30 p.m. — 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 that capture a man matching Gerald Anthony’s description.

Police are also asking those residents in that area to check their properties and be vigilant on the trails surrounding Smallwood Drive.

Anyone with information is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at: www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
