St. John's Regional Fire Department ( SJRFD ) crews from various stations are on location at Newfoundland Power on Duffy Place investigating a possible structure fire call.
A burning smell was easily recognizable at the scene and a chainsaw could be heard making a cutting noise while firefighters were on the roof of the building.
Employees gathered outside the building standing in the falling rain, but many eventually went to their vehicles to take shelter from the elements.
The RNC and Eastern Health paramedics are on the scene as a precautionary measure.
There is no visible smoke as crews investigate from the rooftop and inside the building as well.
Employees were given the OK to re-enter the building shortly after 10 a.m. by the on-scene SJRFD commander Platoon Chief Robert Fowler.
