Members of the Portugal Cove-St. Philip's Volunteer Fire Department are at the scene of a commercial vehicle fire on Oliver's Pond Road in the community.
A privately owned trucking company dump truck has been destroyed as a result of the fire, which began just as the truck was turning off of Old Broad Cove Road.
The two occupants of the truck had to "jump right out of her before she burst into flames," said the father of one of the men.
The fire also scorched a "Maximum 30" speed limit sign and some of the woods.
Firefighters also had to spread absorb all on the road for about 100 feet back from the fire scene and into Old Broad Cove Road due to diesel fuel spillage.
Foam was also used to fully douse the vehicle both during and after the fire was extinguished to ensure there were no hidden flames.
The road will be closed to vehicular traffic for the next hour or so until the truck is removed from the scene and the diesel fuel spill taken care of.
The RNC is at the scene taking statements from the truck driver, and for traffic control.
