Two adult couples plus a woman with a one-year-old son are all staying with relatives or friends, and disaster volunteers from the Canadian Red Cross assisted with emergency purchases of clothing, food and personal-care items.

Although closed Monday for Thanksgiving, the manager of a Walmart store in nearby Grand Falls-Windsor responded immediately to a request from the Red Cross and opened the store briefly to allow the six to meet their emergency needs.

There were no injuries from the fire, reported shortly after 12 midnight Monday .
