Kate OBrien of the firm OBrien White has been appointed by Justice Richard LeBlanc to serve as co-counsel on the inquiry into the Muskrat falls hydroelectric project.

LeBlanc is not doing any interviews at this point, according to a statement issued today from the commission.

It states a first step for the process is to get the required staff and legal counsel in place, with all appointments and related CVs to be posted on an inquiry website, currently in development.

OBrien marks the first co-counsel appointment by LeBlanc. She notably served as legal counsel to the Newfoundland and Labrador Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission and co-counsel to the Commission of Inquiry Respecting the Death of Donald Dunphy.

OBrien was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 2003 and the in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2004.

She holds a Bachelors of Engineering and has worked with many small and medium-sized businesses on cases requiring a specialization in intellectual property law.

The terms of reference for the Muskrat Falls inquiry were released this week. A final report from the inquiry is due to government by Dec. 31, 2019.
