ST. JOHN’S, NL – Ches Crosbie has received the support of a familiar face from the Bonavista area in his bid for leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party.

Former Bonavista South MHA Roger Fitzgerald announced his endorsement of Crosbie on Monday, Dec. 4.

“I believe Ches has what it takes to restore economic confidence in every corner of Newfoundland and Labrador, and help set our party and our province on the best course to ensure our families and communities thrive,” Fitzgerald said in a news release.

Fitzgerald served as the MHA for Bonavista South from 1993-2011 and was as the Speaker for the House of Assembly from 2007-2011.

He joins former premiers Tom Marshall and Tom Rideout, former cabinet ministers Dan Crummell and Joseph Goudie, and Memorial University’s PC and Conservative student associations in their endorsements of Crosbie over the last month.

“Electing Ches Crosbie means electing a leader that will be able to put forward together a strong team with an innovative vision and fresh set of policies to defeat our present Liberal government in 2019,” Fitzgerald said.

The next leader of the Progressive Conservatives will be selected during the party’s convention next April.
