Robin Barrett is led into court in a file photo.

Robin Barrett, 57, was sent to jail in September 2010 to serve 2 1/2 years after he  pleaded guilty to possessing and unlawfully distributing child pornography.

Thursday, Barrett was back in court on three charges — distributing or selling child pornography, accessing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

The Crown obtained a number of conditions to be placed on Barrett, who is not in custody while the matter is before the courts. He hasn’t entered a plea in the case and will be back in court on Oct. 5.

Barrett is to reside at his Anchorage Road, Conception Bay South, home and can visit his mother in Bay Roberts.

But according to the conditions, he has to give 24-hours’ notice to officers in the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Internet child exploitation division before going to visit his mother.

He also must either remain in his own home or at his mother’s between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. each day and immediately answer the door if requested by police.

He is not allowed to be in contact with anyone under the age of 16 and must remain at least 500 metres away from any public park, swimming area, daycare centre, school, school grounds, playground or community centre.

Other conditions include surrendering his passport and he can’t buy, own, use or fix any device — such as computers, laptops and smartphones — that can access the Internet. He’s also not supposed to live anywhere with Wi-Fi access or Internet connection.

Nor can he buy, own or use any device that can capture photos, video or audio. And he can’t use person-to-person file-sharing software.

In relation to the 2010 sentencing, the former clergyman was arrested in 2009. He had 31,460 pictures and 3,451 videos, which included audio. Some of the children were as young as six months old and the images included extremely graphic sexual acts being forced on the children.

At the time of his sentencing in that matter, Barrett stood and apologized to everyone who was affected by his actions. Barrett also apologized at that time to his family for the “shame and harm” he caused them, to his friends for breaking their trust, his church family for putting “a bad light on the gospel” and to his colleagues, for casting the clergy in a bad light.

After his 2009 arrest, Barrett was quickly removed from his position as the rector of the Goulds parish.

Conditions of that 2010 sentencing included his name being placed on the National Sex Registry for 20 years.
