A vacant building that at one time was the Western Star newspaper building on Star Street in Curling caught fire Saturday night.

A police report issued Sunday morning said Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and Corner Brook Fire Department responded to the fire just before midnight.

The police report said the building “sustained extensive damage from the fire.”

Police said they will remain on the scene Sunday as the RNC fire investigator and forensic identification section continue to investigate throughout the day.

They advise motorists that Star Street will remain closed to traffic during the investigation.

The Western Star contacted the RNC on Sunday evening, but there were no updates available as of press time.
