Grand Bank man elects Supreme Court trial by judge alone

GRAND BANK, N.L.—Winston Baker appeared in provincial court in Grand Bank via video conference on Tuesday, July 10.

During his appearance, Baker elected to be tried in Supreme Court in Grand Bank by judge alone.

Baker, who is from Grand Bank, is facing a lengthy list of charges including seven counts of improper storage of a fire arm, 29 counts of possessing property obtained by crime, one count each of breach of recognizance; and unlawfully tampering with (a) vehicle identification number.

He is also charged with one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime and five counts of breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence.

Counsel for both sides will meet on Tuesday, July 17 to set a date for a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
